The FIFA games have a long heritage stretching back to 1993. It's spanned across every major games console since then and was the first game to receive the official license from FIFA, the world governing body of football. Many of the latest games include exclusively-licensed leagues and teams, giving a boost over the competition. Its growth since the original game is phenomenal and is heavily based on community feedback in some cases. It's released annually and is published and developed by Electronic Arts. Considered the best games, the FIFA soccer games for XBox and Playstation have seen some of the biggest expansion in terms of content.

 

2006

 

FIFA 07 was released in September 2006 and marked the beginning of the next generation FIFA games. Available on the XBox 360, it focuses on refinement, rather than growth. The available teams have been reduced to the four European leagues, plus other national teams. To improve immersion, the atmosphere has also been improved with the crowd's ability to react to events throughout the game with small pockets of away support cheering in certain parts of the stadium or the home crowd being local to the region.

 

2007

 

'Be a Pro Mode' has been improved since the previous games as it now allows the user to play a single player, rather than having the ability to swap between any of the team. Additionally, the multiplayer aspects of the game have been improved, such as allowing online cooperative play and interactive leagues between players. This means players can choose a league and team to play against a real opponent and also includes trick moves, a bonus over previous iterations of this mode. FIFA 08 also saw an overall decrease in speed throughout the game.

 

2008 - FIFA 09

 

As with all of the FIFA games, there are a number of improvements. Hundreds, according to the game's producer. Improved responsiveness is also a noted change, which allows for more control over the ball and a shoulder-to-shoulder system that takes into account the players' strength when they jostle. A further expansion of this system allows for a massive overhaul of the player-to-player collision system that takes into account each player's speed, weight and power. Additionally, the goalkeeper has been improved to have better reactions, faster recovery and better positioning.

 

The weather system has also been improved to allow for rain, snow, day, dusk and night matches, dependent on the stadium. Manager mode does not see the weather changes. Again, this is not an exhaustive list, but these are some of the major additions and changes.

 

2009 - FIFA 10

 

The latest game to be released, it has less improvements than the previous game, but perhaps more important for some. The Manager mode has been overhauled in many ways. It now shows news about other users' Manager Mode events and an Assistant Manager can be used to look after some of the game's other features, such as the team line up. The Auto-Resolve matches are now based on each team's strength, rather than random, as it was suggested in the past. The football players now improve based on ingame performance rather than the previous manual improvements.

If EA Sports Calls, Don't Answer

The release of Madden 11 will be one of the most hyped and anticipated events in 2010. This renowned franchise has been a phenomenon for the past 21 years. In order to get shots of all the rookies in their new jerseys, the Madden development team shows up to the annual NFL entry draft. The competetive side of the phenomenon has grown too, and now hundreds of pro Madden players make tons of money playing in tournaments. You may have also heard the term "Madden Holiday"...and it just goes to show how incredibly popular it has become.

 

For all the good that comes with the hype and hysteria of Madden NFL, there is a downfall to the game's yearly release. Since Madden gave up the game's cover appearance starting with the 1999 installment for a different annual cover athlete, that player has suffered from poor play or injury, leading to the belief that there is a Madden NFL curse.

 

Last year was no exception to the Madden curse, and it made it's mark in the very first week of the regular season. Two players made their way onto the cover of Madden 10 for the first time ever. Defending Super Bowl Champion safety of the Pittsburgh Steelers Troy Polamalu goes head-to-head with one of the men he covered in the big game last February, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. In the Steelers' first game of the season against the Tennessee Titans, Polamalu suffered a medial collateral ligament sprain while blocking a field goal. He missed the rest of the seson.

 

One would think that everyone in the league would have learned to avoid Madden by now. Players a) don't need the money and b) are quite superstitious in the best of times, so you'd think they'd just decline the offer from EA sports. As history has shown, going on the Madden NFL cover is almost guaranteed to affect a player, and probably his team, negatively.

2002: Second-year quarterback Daunte Culpepper graced the cover for 2002, but was only able to follow-up an NFC Championship appearance the previous year by missing the final five games of the 2001 season with a knee injury as the Vikings missed the playoffs with a 5-11 record.

 

2003: After being featired as the Madden 03 cover athlete, Rams' running back Marshall Faulk played the whole 2002 season with a naggin ankle problem, and didn't reach his full potential. He failed to rush for 1,000 yards for the first time in 6 years, and the Rams finished the season 7-9. missing the playoffs.

 

2004: Atlanta Falcons quarterback and franchise cornerstone Michael Vick was selected for the 2004 installment of Madden NFL, but missed the entire season after suffering a fractured right fibula in a preseason game and watched his team finish with a 5-11 record.

 

2006: Donovan McNabb was featured on the cover of Madden 06, and in week one of the 2005 season, you guessed it, Donovan McNabb suffered a hernia. It plagued ihim all season, and he eventually missed the last 7 games of the season.

 

That's the history of the curse. So, what will happen to this year's cover star?

Or, more to the point, if you want to get some checks and cheap shots in, the post-whistle action is your chance - and it opens the door for a good old-fashioned battle. And it's just a matter of time before your teammates come swarming to your defense and start throwing a few shots of their own, courtesy of the new level of sophistication in gaming technology.} As you might expect from the sport known for it's brawling, these fights usually collapse into a crazed free-for-all.

On top of all the other upgrades and improvements, precision passing is one that will jazz gamers of all skill levels. In this game, the player has far more impact on the puck's overall speed, as opposed to the earlier entries in the NHL video game series. If that wasn't enough, you have the ability to bank your passes off of the board, based on your aim and strength.}
